Who we are

This policy applies to MODELDROP (the "Site") at modeldrop.fyi. We are the data controller for information we process through the Site, except where third-party services act as independent controllers for their own platforms (such as GitHub).

Information we collect

  • Analytics data: aggregated usage metrics (e.g., page views, referrers, device and browser types) via Vercel Web Analytics.
  • Newsletter data: email address and subscription metadata (such as signup time and confirmation status) managed by Beehiiv.
  • Abuse prevention data: signals used by Vercel BotID to distinguish real users from bots. BotID evaluates session validity without storing user behavior or PII.
  • Comment data: GitHub account info you choose to display and the content of your comments, stored and processed by GitHub via Giscus.
  • Device storage: a single localStorage value that remembers if you dismissed the newsletter prompt.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information.

How we use information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site.
  • Understand traffic trends and site performance.
  • Send newsletters to subscribers who opt in.
  • Protect the newsletter signup form from abuse.
  • Display community comments via GitHub Discussions.

  • Consent: for newsletter subscriptions and, where required, any optional interactions.
  • Legitimate interests: for site analytics, security, and preventing abuse.
  • Compliance with law: when required to meet legal obligations.

Third-party services

We rely on the following providers to operate the Site. Their privacy policies explain how they process data:

Data retention

  • Newsletter data is retained by Beehiiv until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
  • Analytics data is stored in aggregated form by Vercel for limited periods described in their policy.
  • Comment data is stored by GitHub and remains public unless removed by you or GitHub.
  • BotID signals are retained by Vercel as outlined in its policy.
  • The newsletter dismissal flag stays in your browser until you clear site data or reset it.

Your rights (GDPR/UK GDPR/EEA)

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing, and to data portability. You can withdraw consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

For comments, you can also manage or delete your posts directly in GitHub Discussions.

California privacy rights

We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA. California residents may request access to or deletion of their personal information. You can also opt out of the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails.

International transfers

Our service providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. When required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms supported by our providers.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Children's privacy

MODELDROP is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by local law). If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
